  • Linderhof Palace

In a secluded mountain valley Palace Linderhof became the favorite refuge for the Bavarian King Ludwig II. The romantic palace, completed in 1879 in neo rococo style revives the era of the French Bourbon Kings, the interior decoration glittering with gold. In the surrounding extensive landscape garden King Ludwig had an artificial grotto built where he enjoyed listening to music by Richard Wagner. Today visitors are also enthralled by the artificial lake and waterfall, the light and sound effects in this “Venus Grotto”, powered by electricity, which the King already had in use for these special effects.
